Title:
Six Hours in Hell - Bonded Edition
Sculptor: Mark Austin Byrd with Jenelle
Armstrong Byrd
Description:
Open edition sculpture, 84” high x 32” x 22” (44”
pedestal base). Roy Benavidez spoke of the battle in which he earned the
Medal of Honor as “six hours in hell”. This statue shows him on the
battlefield just before his final rescue, near collapse from fatigue and
blood loss, watching the approaching helicopter that finally rescued
him and the
trapped team.
Six Hours in Hell was
created as a study for the Benavidez memorial. It is a vignette,
showing only the head, chest and portions of the arms. As a completed
full figure sculpture it will be about nine feet tall.
Availability: The sculpture is
available for public installations in bronze as a completed figure or in the
present vignette form. The bonded bronze is available for temporary
educational displays.
