Posing for Benavidez Battle Sculpture. Left Picture
above.
Special Forces Vietnam War veteran Eugene Pugh (left) traps the bayonet of
attacking NVA soldier in the crook of his arm, perhaps in the manner that
Roy Benavidez did it in the last minutes of his "Six Hours in Hell."
Gene was dressed in the very uniform and boots that he wore on special
operations missions in Laos during the Vietnam War. He is holding
the same Marine K-Bar knife that he once defended himself with in hand to
hand combat in Vietnam. The NVA soldier, played by a refugee from
Montagnard who was a young boy at the time of the Benavidez incident, is
dressed entirely in authentic NVA or Viet Cong uniforms and equipment.
